Drink-Driver Mounts Kerb In Front Of Cops

A Polish drink driver, who mounted the kerb under the noses of eagle-eyed police near London Bridge, was fined and banned from the roads today (Tuesday).

Painter and decorator Aleksander Mikolaj Wasniewski, 52, of The Drive, Thornton Heath, Surrey, pleaded guilty to driving a Vauxhall Astra with excess alcohol on his breath in King William Street, Monument, on October 26.

City of London Magistrates' Court heard it was 1pm when officers spotted Wasniewski's mounting the kerb while driving the car.

He was pulled over and failed a roadside breath-test. At the police station his alcohol reading was 92 microgrammes - the legal limit is 35.

"I am sorry. It is not going to happen again," Wasniewski told the court through his interpreter. "I drank alcohol the day before. I did not realise the reading would be so high the following day."

JP's fined him £300, with £90 costs and disqualified him from driving for 18 months.
